Greetings from a Neglectful Blogger!

So it's literally been months since I've posted ANYTHING, so I do believe it is time to post once again.

Let's talk about the New Year.

It is now 2012 and I find myself not making one resolution but several:

  • Smile more.
  • Focus on the "now" more than the "then" and "eventually".
  • Always dress in a way that makes me feel pretty and ladylike but at the same time like a force of nature.
  • Become a force of nature.
  • Step up my cello-ing. I've made huge leaps in just a year. Now to leap even further.
  • Be a better leader.
  • Care less about the opposite sex.
  • Care more about people in general. (Hello COMPASSION)
  • Grades. Get them UP.
  • Cut down on the clutter. Sell old, un-worn clothes, get rid of things that have never been used and never will be.
  • Get rid of emotional baggage.
  • Stop being naive. The gravitational field that surrounds so-and-so is strong, but I am stronger.
  • Don't waste so much time.
  • Take a break every so often. Don't get burned out on music within a month.
  • Remember that success is the ultimate goal, but so is happiness.
  • Be happy.
That's about it. There are a couple other things on that list but they aren't things I want to share with the world. So you'll just have to keep wondering.

Second topic of the day is winter break. I've recently finished my first semester of college (yay!) and am now on winter break (boo!). You'd think after a semester like mine (we're talking at least 4 hours in the practice rooms, two hour rehearsals, getting lessons, teaching lessons, and still trying to pass academic classes) a month of doing nothing would be a gift. No. Just no. In the past three weeks I've been the most bored and therefore frustrated human being on the planet earth. I'm the kind of person who likes to keep busy. If I don't have anything to do, I implode. So consider me imploding.
Thankfully I only have 8 days until I get to go back to my dorm (ahem*home*) and pick up my life.
The only thing that is keeping me sane at this point is the audition music for Symphony. Yes, despite being last semester's principal cellist I have to re-audition to be in the Orchestra. Cool.
Okay, rant over.

Here's a picture of me playing at a wedding back in November!

It's been a while...

Sorry for the long break, dears. School just started (first year of college!) and I'm so busy all of the time. It's been really difficult to find a a few minutes to type out a post. (Actually I have class in an hour...)

Here's a picture of my (now deceased) doggie, Einstein, to tide you over until I can find time to write a real post.

Love and puppies,

Update

This is regarding the brown leather shoes in the last post.
 <---These.
I found the brand inside the shoes and decided to see how much they sell for in retail...
Apparently they sell for $95.00 (and are on sale for $69.00 right now). Did I get the deal of the century or what!
Here's the link.
Love, love, love!

Shopping Adventure!

Yesterday I went on a shopping adventure. First to Macy's, then to Target, and lastly to Thrift Town.
And might I say that it was a very successful adventure! I came away from it all with:

These beauties are from Thrift Town (a local thrift store). I bought them for $3.00. They were a  steal!!
Look at the gorgeous basket weave on the toe.

This bag was a great find at Thrift Town. I love looking for bags there because they are (generally) in  really good shape. And since I go through purses so quickly, it's very economical for me. This bag was $9.99.

I was pleased to see it had a pocket for my book.
I love the braided strap! Also, this bag has a fully leather exterior.  Who would give this up??

Check out my beautiful, nautical Keds! They're very versatile and  comfy. Perfect for when I head off to college in a week.
I purchased these beauties at Macy's.
Up close of the navy pinstripes, red banding, and gold contrast stitching.

These were another Macy's find. Aren't they so sweet? These are a beautiful  peachy/nude lace. The brand is Material Girl (yes, from Madonna's clothing line) and I got them for a steal.  Just $19.99!

The lace up close.
Check out that bow!

I LOVE this water bottle. It has the Golden Gate Bridge on it which is constructed out of  street names of San Francisco. I  don't live in San Fran, but I love it with all of my might. I do intend on living there one day. This was a Target find and only set me back $1.99.
It fits perfectly in one of my beat up bags!
Gotta love that shopping!

Until next time,

Let's Review, Shall We?

Once upon a time there was a girl named Elodie. Little Elodie loved Burt's Bees lip balm with all of her might and  kept a tube of it with her at all times. She claimed it was the only lip product she would ever use.
Then one day she saw in a magazine a new wondrous balm.
"Behold!" exclaimed the page. "A revolution in lip care!"
"Oh my!" cried little Elodie, for she was taken aback by the ball-like stature of the product. But after reconsidering what was originally skepticism, she decided that she wanted-nay, NEEDED this EOS lip balm.

So out she ventured to look for said product. After searching and searching, Elodie finally came across a small display of bright pink spheres in her local Wal*Mart.
"Hurray!" she cheered.
And she lived happily ever after.
...until she discovered that there were more flavors.
So began the addiction.

Review of EOS lip spheres flavors Lemon Drop, Summer Fruit, Honeysuckle Honeydew, and Sweet Mint

Methinks these should be reviewed in the order that I purchased them...

Summer Fruit

Scent: I love the scent of this one. It smells like peaches and olive oil (which sounds weird but trust me, it's really nice). A friend of mine used to sneak it out of my bag during class just so he could smell it. Eventually he bought his own!
Formula/Texture: Nice and waxy, not too thin.
Effectiveness: Moisturizes well and last long after applied.
Pros: (Above)
Cons: If your lips aren't too dry, the balm just sits on your lips like a heavy barrier. This can be quite unpleasant.

Lemon Drop

Scent: It smells just like lemonade! In my opinion it is a major pro but might not be for others.
Formula/Texture: Super smooth (unless you get sand in it like me). Very waxy to apply but softens from the heat of your lips. (Hello, hot lips!) I should also note that this formula claims to be SPF 15.
Effectiveness: I brought this with me when I went to the beach and it definitely kept my pucker moisturized and sunburn free.
Pros: (Above)
Cons: Again, the balm felt heavy. Also, it kind of tastes/smells like sunscreen after a while. I almost wish EOS made a non-sunscreen version.

Sweet Mint

Scent: Minty heaven.
Formula/Texture: Super smooth with a nice tingle. Very reminiscent of my previous favorite: Burt's Bees.
Effectiveness: Minty, moisturizing, tingly. Hurray!
Pros: (Above)
Cons: None!
(This is obviously my favorite!)

Honeysuckle Honeydew

Scent: VERY sweet. Smells just like honeydew. No joke.  JUST like it. The same friend who coveted my Summer Fruit is in love with this one. He liked Summer Fruit, but he LOVES Honeysuckle Honeydew.
Formula/Texture: Waxy. Not disagreeable.
Effectiveness: It moisturizes pretty well. Better than SF and LD.
Pros: Moisture!
Cons: The scent isn't my cup of tea. But please note that my friend (above) adores it.

What do they look like??

HDHS on the left is a good example of what an EOS lip sphere looks like when you first buy it. It's very dome-like. SF on the the right is a perfect example of a well used lip sphere.
Again but closer:

As you can see, I use SF a LOT. It's nearly flat, whereas HDHS is quite the opposite.
Overall, I love EOS lipbalms. They are handy, effective, and easy to find in my bag due to their unique shape. Also application is a breeze. No need to stick your finger in a messy pot o' balm. Just apply like any chap-stick and you're good to go!

That's all for now loves!
Love Always,

Speckles and Spices

I mentioned in my last post that I recently went to the beach with a few friends. As a result of a few hours in the sun, I got slightly tanned and a teensy bit sunburned. But I was amazed when I looked in the mirror and saw that my cheekbones and nose were uncharacteristically freckled!
Let me be the first to say that freckles are precious! Never had I had these speckles and I was positively thrilled to see them. They definitely made me feel like Strawberry Shortcake:
With my red (okay, auburn) hair and my new freckles, she and I could be twins! Kidding, kidding. Oh how I wish my hair was naturally that red... Sigh. (I actually tried to dye my hair that color a few years ago. Never. Again.) Also, I want to know where she got a pink polka-dotted cat.

The second obsession of today's post is pepper. That's right. Pepper.
Black pepper, to be more specific.
Actually, it's not so much the appearance of pepper that I love as it is the smell of it. There's something about this spice's scent that puts a big ole smile on my face.

One last thing:
Just thought I should throw that out there.

Love Always,
P.s. Tomorrow I will be doing a review of EOS lip balms.

The Obsession Begins...

Welcome to Elodie's Obsessions!
In honor of my newly acquired adulthood, and new-found love of fashion and beauty blogs, I have decided to create a blog documenting all of the pretty things that catch my eye. In this blog I will ramble and gush over sparkly, entrancing, and straight up glorious things. Why? Why not!
It all starts now.

Obsession number one:
Fishtail braids and (self proclaimed) my crazy cat lady earrings.
Why I'm obsessed?
Let me start by saying that I was born by the ocean and all of my childhood was spent in anticipation of going to the beach. That is still true today. (I actually went on a day trip yesterday with four friends to the coast.) So let it be known that I adore anything beachy and/or nautical.
So that having been said, I love fishtail braids because they make me think of mermaids. I almost wish that they were called "mermaid-tail" braids rather than fishtail braids. Doesn't "mermaid-tail" sound more appealing than "fishtail"?
As for the cat earrings... I've always had cats as pets. I got my first cat when I was 5 (as seen below) and I have had many a feline since. So it should be no surprise that I'm a big fan of kitty themed jewelry.
(This is Benjamina and she simply refuses to die. Note: She's 13 years old.)
The pair that I'm wearing in the picture are thrifted from my mother's collection of unworn costume jewelry. Thanks, Mom! (She'll never notice that they're gone.)

That's all I have for the moment! A new obsession in a a day or so.

Love Always,
